At Skill Hire we know that finding a job can be hard work and that you may need some extra support. We’re here to help.

Skill Hire can offer you:

  • Friendly, experienced consultants who are focused on your individual needs
  • Access to skills training and accredited courses.
  • Help with preparing a resume.
  • Coaching to build up your confidence and improve your interview skills.
  • Free use of the facilities in our Centre including phone, fax, computers, internet, email and newspapers.
  • Employment Consultants who will market you to prospective employers.
  • Ongoing support and assistance even after you start your job.

All of our services and facilities for job seeking are offered at no cost to you.

At Skill Hire we believe that each of our jobseekers has much to offer employers. So whether you are ready to move into work or you need extra skills and training, a Skill Hire consultant will help put you on a new track.

Skill Hire may be able to assist you with:

  • Updating or preparing a resume.
  • Using the Internet to search for jobs.
  • Marketing yourself to employers.
  • Coaching to build up your interview skills.
  • Exploring new career paths.
  • Building your self-confidence.
  • Access to Labour Hire and Group Training opportunities

How do I register?

Centrelink customers:

  • If you register with Centrelink for any assistance you may be eligible to participate in Jobs Services Australia – ask the Centrelink staff about accessing our services.
  • If you are eligible you can choose Skill Hire to be your JSA provider;
    • Centrelink will make an appointment for you with our closest centre. 
    • If you do not live near one of our main centres,  Skill Hire will deliver services to you via our Outreach program.

Direct Registrations – for jobseekers not registering with Centrelink:

To be eligible for Direct Registration, the jobseeker needs to have the legal right to work in Australia and be either:

  • registering for Stream 1 (Limited) – which is when a jobseeker is not:
    •  Undertaking Full‐Time study, unless the purpose for seeking Services from the provider is to obtain an apprenticeship or traineeship;
    •  Employed for 15 hours or more each week, unless he or she is seeking Services from the provider for the purpose of obtaining an apprenticeship or traineeship;
    •  An overseas visitor on a working holiday visa;
    • An overseas student studying in Australia;
    • Prohibited by law from working in Australia;
  • a Vulnerable Youth or Vulnerable Youth (Student)
  • a pre-release prisoner (licensed for partial or day release to engage in paid work);
  • a Community Development Employment Projects (CDEP) participant with access to CDEP Wages;
  • a volunteer (non-activity tested) recipient of Disability Support Pension (DSP);
  • a volunteer (non-activity tested) recipient of Parenting Payment (PP);
  • registering for Harvest Labour or Drought Force; or
  • eligible for assistance under a Labour Adjustment Package (LAP) or Structural Adjustment Program (SAP).

How to get started

During your first interview with Skill Hire our consultants will work with you to create a profile of your skills and experience in the Employment Services System (ESS). 

From this profile we will create a resume for you to use in your Job Search activities. 

Skill Hire staff will introduce you to the systems and facilities available for your use to maximize your opportunities to gain employment.

What to bring to your first interview:

  • Proof of Identity
  • A copy of your current resume – or if you have no resume you will need an outline of your previous employment history, skills, qualifications and licenses.

Skill Hire – Jobs Services Australia does not limit itself to any particular industry.

  • Our consultants will assist our eligible jobseekers to gain employment in any available employment environment that is suited to their skills and abilities.
  • Our consultants may also provide access to training that will skill our eligible jobseekers to be competitive in the current available employment environment.
