Jobs in focus at new Broome office
Training and employment services in the Kimberley will be boosted with the establishment of a new office in Broome for expanding Western Australian company, Skill Hire.
Kimberley MLA Carol Martin will officially open the company’s new office at 2 Cable Beach Road today (Thursday 9 December).
Five local Skill Hire staff will be based at the office providing a wide range of services including apprenticeships and traineeships (Group Training), labour hire, recruitment, Youth Connections and Indigenous employment programs.
Managing Director Tony Fitzpatrick said the new office was an exciting development for Skill Hire and an important step in the company’s growth.
“Being based in Broome means we can expand our training and employment services in the Kimberley and provide a much wider range of services,” he said.
“Our team in Broome has extensive experience in the many different aspects of our business and can provide a complete training and employment service for jobseekers in traineeships and apprenticeships, as well as recruitment and labour hire services for employers.”
Mr Fitzpatrick said the Broome office would have a strong focus on developing opportunities for Indigenous people in the Kimberley.
“Skill Hire is committed to training and employing Indigenous people throughout Western Australia and this commitment is especially relevant in this region given the make-up of the population,” he said.
“We already have several new trainees on board as participants in the Federal Government’s Indigenous Remote Service Delivery Traineeships program run through the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.
“These types of workplace development programs give young Indigenous people the opportunity to develop the skills that will give them a solid grounding and help them make the next move into a career pathway.”
Skill Hire currently has Indigenous trainees in the Kimberley in child care, business administration, horticulture and as teacher’s assistant, targeted at remote schools.
“Broome is an important focus for us and our business in the North West and we are looking forward to increasing our role in the community here,” Mr Fitzpatrick said.
“As part of this, we have supported the development of the facilities at Minyirr Park and the Board will take the opportunity to look at the finished development while it is in town.”
Mr Fitzpatrick said Skill Hire was expanding its operations throughout WA. The Broome office brought the number of its branches to 14.
