Recognition of Prior Learning / Skill Assessment
Many people working within the building and construction industry have gained their skills on the job and not through any formal training pathway. Skill Hire WA can offer these people an opportunity to gain formal recognition of their skills and award them with a qualification for their trade area.
Skill Hire WA currently offers skills assessments for Carpenters & Joiners, and Bricklayers with a minimum of 7 years experience within their trade.
The skills assessment process is two-fold. Firstly, the applicant is required to gather evidence of their work history within the trades. This evidence may include a resume; references; photographs of work; business statements, etc. The second stage is a practical skills assessment where your skills are assessed against the qualification. Successful applicants will then be issued with a National recognised qualification.
The skills assessments also attract subsidies from the Construction Training Fund (CTF) and the Australian Brick and Blocklaying Foundation (ABBTF) upon successful completion.
The Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD) is currently funding this for eligible participants, however, participants are also expected to contribute a minimum amount to the training.
