Trade Skills Assessments
Many trades people who have been working within the industry for many years, have gained their knowledge through on-the-job experience and non-formal training. Whilst they have the knowledge for their trade they have never had their skills for-mally assessed and do not hold a trade qualification.
National changes expected to be introduced into WA in 2012 will make it a requirement for some construction trades to be regis-tered. Trades people will need to show their qualification in order to register to work in their field.
RTS is currently offering trade skills assessment or recognition of prior learning (RPL) for bricklay-ers and carpenter & joiners who have a minimum of seven years trade experience. The cost to applicants is $580.00, however, subsidies available upon comple-tion include a $400 cash back from the CTF.
