Working toward a trade provides you with the opportunity to start your own business a lot sooner than you’d think or work in your trade once you have completed your apprenticeship training. Tradies are well sought after and if you complete one job you’ll be bound to be referred to a range of other clients. Word of mouth is a powerful thing when it comes to having a trade!

University fees range from $6000 to a staggering $10 000 a year. In comparison to this, an apprenticeship is paid by the employer and the Government so that you, as the apprentice can finish your trade with no debt whatsoever! The fact that you are earning money whilst completing your apprenticeship will make all of your friends at University just a bit jealous!

Having trade based skills, built during apprenticeship training and through access to apprenticeship services is a handy skill to have, especially when you are moving jobs. It is much easier to move jobs when you have a trade, employers generally value employment experience and the know how obtained during the apprenticeship stage.

In the next 5 years the construction industry is set to boom with jobs. Australia is looking at having a larger investment in infrastructure such as roads, railways and airports, meaning jobs will continue to grow. When talking specifics, the employment level of construction workers is looking at increasing by roughly 258 000 jobs by 2023.
