Employability Skills Training Program
The Australian Government’s Youth Jobs PaTH Employability Skills Training (EST) program is designed to support young people aged 15 – 24 years into jobs. Youth Jobs PaTH covers three elements – Prepare, Trial and Hire.

PREPARE with Employability Skills Training
Employability training programs help young people understand the expectations of employers in the recruitment process and in the workplace. Employability Skills Training is made up of two training blocks with different content focuses:
- BLOCK ONE : Block 1 courses are designed to equip participants with pre-employment skills and prepare them to meet the expectations of employers. The content of these courses covers the 10 Core Skills for Work listed in the Core Skills for Work Developmental Framework (2013), while also covering a comprehensive induction to our industry-specific training in Admin, Construction /Trades, Hospitality / Retail, Individual Support / Aged Care or Generalised training.
Note: If you are a business, please note that all EST training courses can be tailored to suit your business needs. We welcome the opportunity to provide unique and specific training proposals to employers.
- BLOCK TWO: Training Block 2 courses focus on job preparation and are designed to equip participants with advanced job hunting skills, career development and interview skills. It also provides the opportunity to participate in Industry Awareness Experiences. These experiences will provide participants with an insight into the tasks and duties of different roles and industries.
TRIAL with PaTH internships
Voluntary internships of 4 – 12 weeks are provided to give young people the chance to demonstrate their skills in a real workplace where there is a reasonable prospect of subsequent employment. The Youth Jobs PaTH internships is the component which helps businesses trial young people to see if they are the right fit for their business, before hiring. This arrangement not only benefits the young people who gain valuable work experience in the process but also businesses, in providing a flexible trial arrangement, to avoid the stresses of rehiring.
HIRE with Skill Hire
A new Youth Bonus wage subsidy of up to $10,000 is available to support the employment of young people. If the Youth PaTH internship shows a great fit between your business and the candidate trialed, our team can then assist you in bringing this candidate on board.
Participants and their jobactive provider receive an assessment of their Learning Outcomes following the completion of the course, which they can use to promote themselves to businesses for PaTH Internships, other work experience opportunities or employment. Courses are delivered face-to-face in group settings for 25 hours a week for three weeks.
Employability Skills Training (EST) Course Offerings:
BLOCK ONE
Hospitality / Retail
Employability Skills Training program’s Hospitality / Retail Training Block One course is a 3-week program delivered by qualified and experienced industry trainers in practical, interactive sessions focused on providing basic skills and entry level requirements to enter the Hospitality & Retail industries. At the end of Training Block 1, participants will be expected to achieve and demonstrate a clear understanding of:
– Increased personal awareness and confidence
– Workplace communication skills
– Short term goal setting
– An understanding of industry employee / employer requirements
– Customer engagement
– Barista basics
– Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)
– Safe food handling practices
– Point of sale
– Entry level sales & marketing
– Restaurant set-up including order taking and meal delivery
Construction / Trades
This Construction / Trades training course is a 3-week program delivered by qualified and experienced industry trainers in practical, interactive sessions focused on providing basic skills and entry level requirements to enter the Construction and Trade based industries.
At the end of Training Block 1, participants are expected to achieve and demonstrate a clear understanding of:
– Increased personal awareness and confidence
– Workplace communication skills
– Short and long term goal setting
– An understanding of industry employee / employer requirements
– Basic understanding of construction tools and equipment
– Construction White Card training
Pre-requisites: PPE including hi-vis long sleeve shirt, steel cap boots & long work pants (Speak to your jobactive provider for assistance if needed)
Admin / Business
This Admin / Business training course is a 3-week program delivered by qualified and experienced industry trainers in practical, interactive sessions focused on providing basic skills and entry level requirements to work in an admin or business role.
At the end of Training Block 1, participants will be expected to achieve and demonstrate a clear understanding of:
– Increased personal awareness and confidence
– Workplace communication skills
– Short term goal setting
– An understanding of industry employee / employer requirements
– Customer engagement
– Microsoft Office Suite training
– Phone and face-to-face customer service
– Data entry & administrative tasks
– Minute taking & dictation
Individual Support / Aged Care
This Individual Support / Aged Care training course is a 3-week program delivered by qualified and experienced industry trainers in practical, interactive sessions focused on providing basic skills and entry level requirements to enter the Individual Support / Aged Care industries.
At the end of Training Block 1, participants will be expected to achieve and demonstrate a clear understanding of:
– Increased personal awareness and confidence
– Workplace communication skills
– Short term goal setting
– An understanding of industry employee / employer requirements
– Manual handling practices
– Safe Work practices – HACCP training
– Provide support to customers
– Serving food and beverages
– Engaging with the elderly or disabled
– Domestic & commercial cleaning practices
Generalist (World of Work : Get the “WOW” Factor)
Employability Skills Training program’s Block One Generalist course is a 3-week program delivering practical, interactive training sessions that are designed to give jobseekers the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to enter entry level employment. Jobseekers will have the opportunity through this program to participate in training that allows them to network with peers, build confidence and resilience and to think critically while they problem solve their way through a series of real world tasks. During this block jobseekers will focus on the 10 Core Skills for work, confidence and understanding employer expectations.

Requirements for the Day: USI, ability to obtain a police clearance and possible drug & alcohol screen for internships & employment opportunities.
BLOCK TWO
Generalist – Individual Pathways to Employment
This 3-week program is delivered to jobseekers to help them identify their individual career goals with a clear guide, action plan and personal development to help them achieve success. On the completion of this activity participants will feel empowered and motivated to propel themselves into employment.
This individualised block two program follows all of the specialised Block One courses where after obtaining the required skills and training in Block One our Block Two trainers are able to assist them in updating and creating new resumes and cover letters they can use to reverse market each jobseeker for employment and internship opportunities.
